Radon is a radioactive gas. It comes from the natural decay of Uranium that is found in nearly all soils. You can’t see, taste, or smell Radon. It typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Any home may have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. The only way to tell if your home has Radon is to test!
Radon is estimated to cause over 21,000 deaths each year. Radon is the number 1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and number 2 overall.
When should radon be mitigated?
The USEPA and IEMA recommends mitigating a home when the levels are 4 pCi/L or more.
Can elevated levels of Radon be fixed?
